Frequently Asked Questions

What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is now the third largest form of healthcare, after your GP and dentist. Like your GP and Dentist, all doctors of Chiropractic are strictly regulated by a governing body - the General Chiropractic Council. Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your brain is connected to every organ in your body via the nerves in your spinal cord. The spinal cord is protected by the spine. Chiropractors gently manipulate your spine to remove any stresses within it, which might be preventing messages from your brain getting through to your organs - and thus, impeding their function. You can read a more in-depth description of chiropractic, in our 'What Is Chiropractic?' section.

Will It Hurt?
Chiropractic adjustments are relatively painless. This is why it takes 5 - 10 treatments to get your body responding to treatment (through a series of gentle adjustments rather than a few very painful ones). This is also why Chiropractic is used to treat people of all ages, from babies and children to the elderly. Your Chiropractor will do their best to ensure your experience is a pleasant and pain-free one.

Who can benefit from Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a natural approach to health care. People visit UK Chiropractors for many reasons, some because they are in pain, others are simply facilitating good health. Some patients report better sports performance, increased energy and resistance to disease, clearer thinking and a more comfortable pregnancy. A Chiropractic spinal check-up and adjustment (if required), will help restore normal function to your spine and nervous system, which will improve your well being. So if you're tired of being sick, tired of being told to "learn to live with pain" and are looking at a natural method of regaining health and wholeness without polluting your body with chemicals - make an appointment with a family Chiropractor today!

96% of all patients report an improvement to their health by their 6th visit!

If you would like to get more information on how Chiropractic can help YOU, please read our 'Symptoms We Treat' page.

What is the Chiropractor's goal?
The goal of your chiropractor is not to treat any disease itself but to enhance your health by relieving you of spinal subluxations (stress) so that your body may function better and heal itself more effectively.

Do Chiropractors have medical degrees?
No, Chiropractors have chiropractic degrees from chiropractic colleges. The education is similar to that of a medical doctor but with a different emphasis - natural healthcare. The letters after a chiropractor's name (D.C.) stand for Doctor of Chiropractic. Completion of a Chiropractic degree requires 5 years full-time study.

How long does a spinal adjustment take?
Usually between a few minutes and quarter of an hour (more or less) when the Chiropractor is familiar with the patient's spine. It depends varies between individual patients.

Can Chiropractic prevent back surgery?
In the majority of cases, the answer is a resounding "yes"!

Can someone who has had back surgery see a Chiropractor?
Yes, in most cases, chiropractic care will prevent the need for any future operations. A Chiropractor will be able to advise you best, based on your own individual case.

Can I go only once?
Of course. Once is better than never. Sometimes a spinal problem may be due to nothing more than a slight spinal misalignment rather than long-standing subluxations (stresses on the spine).

What will happen if I stop going?
Stress on the spine will continue to build up, as before, without the relief and reduction provided by Chiropractic care. If this stress continues to go unattended, the body and overall health may suffer.
